Soups are fun and easy. They are flexible enough to eat almost any time of day. Perhaps the best part about them is that you can prepare them in bulk, freeze them, and enjoy some any time you want. Here we will discuss chestnut soup, which is a great winter soup recipe. But feel free to have it any time you want. Let’s get started.

Chestnut Soup Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 1 stalk of celery, chopped
  • 1 potato, cubed
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • One 10 oz can of chestnuts in water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Chestnut Soup

1. Heat the olive oil in a sauce pan then add the onion. Cook for one minute until it is soft.

2. Then add the celery, potato and chicken broth.

3. Bring the mixture to a boil then let it simmer for 20 minutes.

4. Using a blender, puree the soup and the chestnuts (with the water).

5. Pour the mixture back into the pan.

6. Season the mixture with salt and pepper

7. If you want, use some cream on the soup when it is finished.

This soup is generally simple to prepare but it will demand some time to cube the potato and chop the celery. All told you will need about 45 minutes to prepare this soup. But once it’s finished you will have yielded plenty of soup so it’s not something you will need to make all the time. Also, make sure you don’t confuse chestnuts in water for the water chestnut. These are two entirely different things. The chestnuts you want for this recipe should always come in a can.

Healthy Soup

What makes this soup so great? Well, for starters the soup is very healthy. So you shouldn’t be afraid to have it regularly. Also, feel free to be creative with this recipe. It is often excellent with Brussells sprouts. Also, you could sauté the soup in some butter and serve it with poultry. Whatever you choose to do with it, make sure it is wonderfully tasty!
